Sit Down With An Artist: CONN13

Sit Down With An Artist: CONN13

Welcome to first in the series of Sit Down With An Artist in this exclusive interview with Connie, better known by her stage name, CONN13!

Strap in, because we're diving deep into the vibrant world of music, her inspiration and the next projects that are on the horizon for her.

Picture this: a fusion of raw talent, boundless creativity, and a magnetic stage presence that leaves audiences spellbound. That's exactly what CONN13 brings to the table. With an aura that's as infectious as it is electrifying, she's redefining the music scene one beat at a time. We asked her:

What initially inspired you to pursue a career in music?

"I’ve always been a singer , since I can remember it’s been my dream. But early inspirations have to be Amy Winehouse and my love for the Sound of Music had me fascinated with making music."

What’s your style of music?

"I’d say predominately I’m a soul singer but I like to add elements of multi genres into my music like blues, hip hop electronic rock etc, whatever i’m in the mood for when I'm in the studio really."

Can you share some insights into your creative process when crafting new songs or performances?

For me really it’s about making yourself feel comfortable in whatever way that may be. I like to work on my laptop playing around with midi stuff until i find a melody on the keys i like and punch it in. Then i start to hum over the top and start free styling until some sense starts to form!"

Are there any particular themes or messages that you strive to convey through your music?

"Last year I wrote a song about Sarah Everard a young woman who was murdered in Clapham Common a couple years back, and the struggles women have to face in everyday life . That song is really important to me and i guess those messages are intertwined in a lot of my lyrics."

What role do you believe clothing and personal style play in the expression of your identity as an artist?

"Clothing is so important, especially clothes that make you feel good about yourself and allow you to express who you are. The more comfortable I feel in an outfit , the better I perform on stage / write in the studio etc."

Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or collaborations that you're particularly excited about?

"I’m currently rehearsing for my headline show at the Tram and Social in Tooting which is on the 14th March and tickets for that can be found in my instagram bio.
Also got ALOT of new music which i’m hoping to get out this year."

What advice would you give to aspiring singers or musicians who are just starting their journey in the industry?

"It’s a marathon not a sprint. Quality over quantity and stay independent for AS long as possible. Treat everyone you work with fairly because you never know what positions those people will be in, in the future."

Lastly, can you share a memorable moment from your career that has had a significant impact on you as an artist?

"Probably making tears I’ve cried. That cemented my passion really, because of the process and the reaction from different people."

We also nabbed a pic of CONN13 in the Amsterdam T-Shirts adorned with mischievous winking faces. It's the perfect fusion of style and attitude, just like her music.
