Sit Down With An Artist: POSER

Sit Down With An Artist: POSER

It's been a minute. Welcome to the next instalment of ‘Sit Down With An Artist.’ This time, we’re joined by Irish-born, DJ and producer POSER. After playing the very first Hun Sauce Presents, it was only right we followed it up with a coffee in Dalston before he moved back to Ireland.

From his roots in Dublin’s dance music scene to his growing presence across London and beyond, POSER brings together house, garage, breaks and plenty of dancefloor energy. With new music on the way, we sat down to talk shop. He arrives in a Lankum merch tee conveniently, one of the references already picked out from my moodboard for our upcoming project together. We nattered all things from influences, dream B2Bs, Guinness, questionable DJ requests and what’s next.

The photos throughout this feature were shot at the very first Hun Sauce Presents, where he joined us behind the decks for the night. Wearing the I’M NOT A DJ Heavyweight T-Shirt. A pretty fitting place to kick things off, so let’s get into it…

Where does the name POSER come from?
The name POSER literally comes from having a list on my phone where I always write down song titles or notes. I needed to pick one before my first release, and it seemed fitting at the time. I think it's something I've grown into.

Three words that describe your sound?
Euphoric, contemplative, gorgeous.

Sunrise set or warehouse at 2am?
Warehouse at 2am, defooo.

Favourite city to play?
Dublin is always my favourite city to play.

One artist everyone should be listening to right now?
Everyone should be listening to Rory Sweeney. He's the best producer in Ireland.

Dream B2B?
Four Tet.

One track you'll never get bored of?
I've listened to As 4 Me by Mike thousands of times and never not enjoyed it.

Biggest influence on your sound?
Jamie xx has probably been the biggest influence on my sound growing up. Nowadays, it's mainly listening to things that my friends make that inspires me.

Favourite venue you've played?
Index in Dublin.

Favourite venue you'd love to play?
I'd love to play the Olympia in Dublin. I think it's such an amazing venue and would be a real bucket-list one for me. Or the Roundhouse in London.

What's inspiring you outside of music?
I've just moved home, so I'm spending a lot of time in nature and with friends, which is really inspiring to me.

Most underrated record in your collection?
I think there's a white label Whitney Houston remix called Do You Know. I have to stop myself playing it in every set because it goes off every single time. It's a recognisable acapella and a mad bass.

Most overrated dance track?
I hate to take any one track down because, as long as they can make you dance, then they're good! But I truly never got Drum & Bass in the same way that people in the UK get it.

Disco or House?
House.

Garage or Breaks?
Garage.

Festival or Club?
Club.

Lager or Guinness?
Guinness.

Worst DJ request?
Had someone ask me for a Westlife track in the middle of a set.

If you weren't making music?
I think I'd still be working in music. I just really love being around it and talking about it.

What's next for POSER?
I actually have no idea what's next. I'm working on so much music, but I just need to figure out what direction I'd like to go with it.

New music on the way?
But there is new music on the way!!
